England might not be what comes to mind when thinking of the world’s top destination. But with travel being so restricted right now there are many reasons to travel domestically and see this truly beautiful country.

The land of Shakespeare, fairy-tale landscapes, the Beatles, famous foods, and the royal family. And not to mention Harry Potter, pubs, beer, pockets of culture all around the country. There is so much diversity packed in this small land with lots to discover. I’m proud to call England my home.

So without further ado, here are the top spots to see in England:

London

This one is obvious. But with this megacity, there’s so much to see and do. Experience one of the world’s top metropolitan by passing through the distinct areas. Enjoy a stroll down the Thames and a ride up the London Eye in Southbank. Camden for the quirky shops and markets. Shopping in lively street boutiques in Covent Garden and Soho. Learn more about London’s history in Westminster, this is also where you’ll be able to see the famous Big Ben and Westminster Abbey. Don’t forget to take the iconic double-decker bus to get around the famous sites such as Buckingham Palace, Tate Modern Museum, and the Tower of London. With all the food, famous museums, landmarks, architecture, and nightlife. What’s not to love?



Manchester

Another city with such a culture and music scene. England’s second-largest city, and London’s hip cool. little sister is definitely worth exploring if you want to experience the hustling bustling English city that’s not London. With an amazing vibe, restaurant, bars, concerts, you’ll for sure have a great time.



Bath

A city filled with Roman baths. In England you say? That’s right! Bath is full of history and Georgian architecture. There are Roman baths that were built over 2000 years ago! So you’ll be soaking and relaxing just like the Romans did in ancient times. The perfect place for a short break and one of England’s prettiest small cities.



Lake District

A serene, natural area over 900 square miles where you can backpack, ride a boat, and be surrounded by nothing but beautiful hills is a perfect way to step away from it all. The well-preserved national park is the best place to see grand views and to spend time outdoors with the largest lakes in the country. Question is, which lake should you visit? Windermere Lake is the biggest and the most popular but lake Ullswater is great for climbers, and if you're looking for peaceful hikes and convenience for island hopping Derwent water is this place to visit. Overall there are 16 beautiful lakes in all to choose from, so you can’t go wrong either way.



The Cotswolds

An area that is the most typical “English”. Surrounded by quaint villages and pubs in the countryside. You’ll think you’ll be transported to a fairy-tale. The biggest of 38 Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in England and Wales. With interesting art galleries, museums and festivals, there’s always something to do in this stunning area.



Cambridge and Oxford

These university towns are fairly similar and have got a bit of a rivalry. Which one is better? Why don’t you check both of them out and let me know? Beautiful architecture with peaceful parks, it's definitely worth a visit. Both are relatively small cities that are easily explored on foot.




Cornwall

Voted as the no. 1 place to visit in England this year, this coastal region will surely not disappoint. A dramatic coastline, gorgeous harbours, Cornish pixies, and incredible surf breaks for water lovers. There are also miles of accessible hikes available and a world-class food scene. For all of you history buffs out there, Cornwall also has its own distinct culture. Based on Celtic roots, you’ll see the Cornish language displayed across villages along with the friendly smiles.



Jurassic Coast

This magical name doesn’t disappoint. You’ll think you’re transported to the mysterious land of the dinosaurs. And you can actually go fossil hunting on a UNESCO Heritage Site! Let your inner anthropologist unleash! Plus the region of Devon has a great seaside vibe and fantastic food. Perfect for a simple holiday.



Yorkshire

This northern region has stunning landscapes, including 3 national parks. Well preserved mills and terraced streets and the inspiration of so much British literature. Amazing Victorian architecture and serene peaceful parks. Not to mention the food scene here is fantastic. With more Michelin-Star restaurants than anywhere else in England besides London, this region deserves to be visited.



Brighton

There’s always something to do in this funky seaside city. Whether that’s beach yoga, flea markets, or skateboarding, this quirky city has it all. Get lost in the tiny streets and browse through an array of shops. Finish off your trip with a stroll along Brighton pier and enjoy some mouth-watering food along the beach. Perfect for a weekend getaway.



So there you have it! The top places to see in England. It’s a country that’s worth a visit and though not a tropical destination, has very memorable and beautiful areas left to be explored.

I love the variety the nation has to offer. From medieval castles to modern cuisines. And the peaceful natural areas when you want to get away from it all.


Whether you are looking for city life, seaside resorts, serene countryside, or a bit of history, there really is something for all.
